IP Address Space Changes Begin today

Over the summer, I'll be beginning some changes to the IP address space architecture. These changes will be occuring gradually over a period of time. Whenever, I make a change, I'll post an update here. The first change, I'll be making today--expanding our existing IP space.

Currently, we use a "Class C" IP subnet, meaning there are a total of 254 addresses available for computers, printers, and other devices. Believe it or not, during the school year, we are regularly exceeding this total count (this includes all devices that connect to the network, including cell phones, etc...). In this first step, I'll be expanding the IP subnet to a "Class B" subnet. This will allow a total of 65024 devices to connect simultaneously (which should keep us busy for a bit). As time goes on, I'll be organizing the addresses further by user type.

I don't anticipate any difficulties, but if you experience any problems from this change, please contact me.

Thanks!
